Why are WhatsApp calls blocked in the UAE?
The TRA blocks VoIP traffic to protect Etisalat and du's paid voice services. WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram, Skype, and Signal voice calls are all blocked on consumer plans. Licensed VoIP apps (BOTIM, C'me, Voico) work but require monthly fees per user. A VPN routes the call traffic outside the UAE so the block doesn't apply.
Will the other person know I'm calling via VPN?
No. WhatsApp does not reveal IP or location data to the person you're calling. The call looks exactly like a normal WhatsApp call to them. End-to-end encryption continues to work — Doppler can't see call contents either.
Does Doppler work on Etisalat 5G and du 5G?
Yes. Tested on both major UAE carriers' 4G and 5G networks. Also works on hotel Wi-Fi, mall Wi-Fi, e-Life home fibre, and du Home internet.
Will group calls work?
Yes. WhatsApp group voice (up to 32 participants) and group video (up to 8 participants) both work over Doppler. Latency is usually comparable to non-UAE connections.
Is it legal to use a VPN to bypass the UAE WhatsApp block?
Personal use is a legal grey area but not enforced against individuals. UAE Federal Law No. 12 of 2016 criminalizes VPN use to commit a crime — making a personal call is not a crime. Millions of UAE residents and tourists use VPNs daily without incident. Doppler keeps no logs.
How does the price compare to BOTIM?
Doppler monthly is $6.99 (~AED 26). BOTIM through Etisalat is AED 50–60/month per user — and only unblocks BOTIM, not WhatsApp itself. Doppler covers your entire device for less. A 6-month or annual Doppler subscription drops the monthly cost further.
Will WhatsApp video calls work in HD with Doppler?
Yes. Our nearest exit nodes (Bahrain, Qatar, India) deliver under-70 ms latency from the UAE, which WhatsApp uses to negotiate HD video. Group video calls with up to 32 participants work the same as on an unblocked network.
Will my WhatsApp account get banned for using a VPN?
No. WhatsApp does not ban accounts for VPN use — millions of users in censored networks (India, China, Iran, Russia, UAE) connect through VPNs every day. The terms-of-service ban applies to bulk-messaging abuse, not personal VPN use. Doppler's traffic looks like ordinary HTTPS to WhatsApp's servers; they cannot tell you're tunneling.
Can I switch Doppler off after the call to save battery?
Yes, but you don't need to. VLESS-Reality's idle overhead is minimal — under 1% battery per hour on a modern phone — and the app supports per-app VPN, so you can route only WhatsApp through the tunnel and leave everything else on your normal connection. Both options work; do whichever feels less intrusive.
